June 7, 2011

these boots were made for working.

two weeks from today I will board a plane headed for Baton Rouge. My suitcase will be packed with 5 pairs of work jeans, 6 pairs of Smartwool socks and about a dozen cheap t-shirts. My work uniform is nothing to get excited about, unless you count my boots. I was told I needed steel-toed boots and a friend suggested RedWing. Well, I wasn't really looking forward to spending $250 on a pair of unattractive boots.
So I kept searching and one day on e-bay I came across these beauties... size 7, brand new, Red Wing steel toed boots... $13.99. I made a bid and a week later they were at my doorstep. I love good deals, but I feel like these were a steal and plus they are CUTE. I'm excited to break them in and spend a good 16 hours a day in them over the next 6 months.

did I mention I have to wear a hard hat? hahahahaaaa

customer love // michael ann

a few days ago Michael Ann sent me a link to a blog post she did on my gold leaf hair clip. I am in love with how she styled the piece and wanted to share with you guys. Michael Ann has an amazing blog, check her out if you have a moment.
Is that not the most adorable hairstyle you've ever seen? I'm in love with the fishtail braid.

Do you have photos of any Indie & Chic pieces? Please let me know. Have a wonderful weekend.

hello June.

June. Being home in the Alabama heat. Reconnecting with my high school friends. A backyard Graduation party. Training Parker (the pup) to run with me. Re-reading the Harry Potter series. Late nights on the back deck talking with my mom. June will be the month I begin my first "real" job. 70 hour work weeks. Figuring out what it means to pay bills and budget. Starting the next chapter of me. Be good to me June.

Megan's Summer Trends // Flower Crowns

One trend that has been very popular this spring, and will easily transition into summer, is flower crowns. They are a very feminine and natural accessory that ties in with the 1970s theme that has been a focal point so far this year.

While I think that they are very pretty, I can’t imagine being able to pull off this accessory in everyday life. One easier way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is a headband, such as one from Indie and Chic. It has the same summery and girly feel but is more appropriate to wear to work or school. It easily dresses up any outfit: from a dress to jeans and a t-shirt. Custom headbands are available as well so you can come up with your own perfect flower headband!

So what do you think of the flower crown trend? Is it something that you’re planning on trying out this summer?

laughs.

what I really wish I could post is a video of myself attempting to carry three 50lb boxes across campus to the mail room. but alas I have no one to hold the camera... it would have been epic.
loving this over exposed, dirty mirror self-portrait
trying to stay positive... things have gotten so bad that I've begun procrastinating with Yahtzee on my phone. I told you... it's bad. haha.

I will leave you with my to-do list as to motivate myself and hold myself accountable! Send some motivation my way blog land, this girl needs it.

Things to do before Friday at 5pm
*Ship 3 boxes home
*Make sure I haven't left anything in storage
*Clean out car
*Get car serviced
*Break and have a mini dance party
*More packing
*Take unwanted items to the campus Reuse Room

I will reward myself with a new print from etsy, something inspiring and meaningful :) xoxo lovers!

packing.

9 days till I graduate!

May 16, 2011

these days.

I'm packing like a crazy person.
I'm trying to figure out how I accumulated so many things in 4 years.
Dreading saying goodbye to my friends and boyfriend.
Excited that in less than 2 weeks my family will be here.
Sleeping in as much as possible and staying up really late.
Band of Brothers marathons with the boy.
and digesting this period of my life called college.

22 at twenty-two // #5 find a job

I can't even believe I'm typing this post right now. I'm still in shock. I received a job offer today and I'm on my way to fax over my acceptance papers. I feel so overwhelmed with everything and I'm feeling really fortunate that I have a job when I graduate... really really fortunate.

I start work June 22nd. So that isn't very far away... I'll be relocating back to the South... can't believe I'm saying that. WOW! The plan is to graduate May 28th, and then drive back to Alabama with Russ (because everyone needs a road trip buddy with good music taste) and then a small graduation party June 5th in the backyard. I'm soooo excited, I've never had a graduation party before :) Then I have a few weeks till I fly in to Baton Rouge to begin my job.

A few downsides... I'll be living in a hotel for 3 weeks at time and then flown home for a week, this will happen through the end of December. I'll be working 14-16 hours a day for a total of 60 - 70 hours a week. This means I will probably have to temporarily close the Indie and Chic shop mid June. I'm thinking of only accepting custom orders and wholesale projects through the end of the year. I'm really sad about this, but I may find a way to make it work. I want to be the best employee I can be and not be worried about my own shop while working such long hours.

So yea... that is the run down. Thanks for all the good vibes you guys have been sending me over the last few days. I'm really excited for this next chapter in my life :)
